Description
This canoe was made in Lancaster NH during the months of June and July 2021 from locally obtained Birchbark, Eastern White Cedar, Ash wood and Spruce roots. This is the 62nd canoe I have made, most of which have been birchbark. It measures 15′ 3″ long, 36″ wide and is 13″ deep in the center. Weighs 53 lbs. It has two seats made of wood and rawhide. Birchbark canoes require a little more TLC than canoes made with fiberglass or Kevlar but as you can see in the picture it is quite usable. In addition to using on the water they also are great for putting on display in a hunting camp, ski lodge, etc. The seams are sealed with marine caulking rather than pine pitch.
